Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma chaired a review meeting in Tura with senior officials to evaluate key development projects, including Tura Medical College, Shillong Medical College, sports infrastructure, and the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Sangma stated that Tura Medical College is nearing completion and confirmed that classes at Shillong Medical College will begin by September 2025. Once Shillong, Tura, and USTM colleges are fully operational, Meghalaya is expected to produce over 550 doctors annually, strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
On sports development, the government plans to focus on grassroots initiatives at village and block levels, organizing regular tournaments and promoting various disciplines, including chess, athletics, and indigenous sports.
Regarding the Jal Jeevan Mission, reports show 90% completion, but nearly 20% of households still lack water supply. The Chief Minister has directed a state-wide audit of all FHTCs to identify and resolve gaps to ensure no household is left without water.
The review meetings aim to track project progress, address challenges, and ensure timely implementation with citizens’ needs prioritized.
