Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday laid the foundation stone for a ₹7.18 crore Fruit Dehydration Unit at Songsak in East Garo Hills district. The project is being implemented under the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA), Government of Meghalaya, through a Community Public-Private Partnership (CPPP) model.
The facility will be operated by the ABRI FPO Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. With an annual capacity to process 7,400 metric tonnes of fresh fruits, the unit will produce around 886 metric tonnes of dehydrated fruit products each year.
This initiative aims to strengthen the agricultural value chain by supporting local farmers and producer groups, adding value to their produce, and creating new market opportunities in the region.
