Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar on Friday launched the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and a dedicated website to improve the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in the state.
Addressing the programme at Raj Bhavan, the Governor emphasized the importance of collective efforts to uphold the spirit of the Act, which guarantees every child’s constitutional right to education. He described the initiative as a significant step towards inclusivity, equality, and social integration.
The newly introduced SOPs aim to provide clear and uniform guidelines, while the website is expected to enhance transparency and efficiency in admissions under Section 12(1)(c). This section mandates a 25 percent reservation of entry-level seats in private, unaided, non-minority schools for children from disadvantaged groups.
Education Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri said children admitted under this provision will study free of cost, with the government reimbursing the schools. He added that the initiative seeks to bridge socio-economic gaps and expand access to quality private education for underprivileged children.
