The Meghalaya government has directed more than 500 schools operating without formal recognition to regularise their status within six months, in compliance with the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.

According to an official notification issued on Friday, all unrecognised schools must submit their applications in Form 1 to the respective District School Education Officers (DSEOs).

The schools are required to obtain formal recognition from the competent authority within six months from the date of the notification.
