Shillong, Aug 5: The Meghalaya government has instructed the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to install proper signage along the under-construction Shillong-Dawki Road in East Khasi Hills district following a tragic accident that claimed five lives.
The incident occurred on Sunday night near Rngain, about midway on the route, when a car carrying five members of a family fell into a 70-foot-deep gorge. The deceased included a pregnant woman and a toddler.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who also oversees the Public Works Department (Roads), said the directive was issued after a review of road safety conditions in the area.
