Shillong, Feb 4: Police have dropped charges against two individuals earlier arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence in the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, following a detailed investigation, officials said on Tuesday.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the probe found no involvement of Balbir Ahirbar and Lokendra Singh Tomar, leading to their exclusion from the second chargesheet filed in the case. Both had been detained on suspicion of destroying evidence and were later released on bail.

“The final investigation established that they had no role in the case, and their names have been dropped from the chargesheet,” Syiem told PTI.

Police had initially named three suspects in connection with alleged evidence tampering. Of them, only one has been included in the fresh chargesheet submitted to the court, which is expected to hear the matter soon.

The prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of the deceased, continues to remain in judicial custody after her recent bail plea was rejected.

Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Madhya Pradesh, was killed during a honeymoon trip to Meghalaya in May 2025. His decomposed body was recovered from a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district on June 2 following an extensive search operation.

Police said investigations indicated attempts to destroy evidence and conceal the body. The case remains under investigation.
