In a new development in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi has filed a bail petition challenging the charge sheet filed against her. The Judicial Magistrate First Class of Sohra sub-division has scheduled the hearing for September 17.
According to Additional Public Prosecutor Tushar Chandra, the petition was submitted on Friday, while the prosecution requested additional time to examine the case records. Sonam’s lawyer argued that the police charge sheet contained “flaws.”
Sonam is accused of conspiring with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, to murder her husband, Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. Raja was killed in May by three hired assailants at a secluded parking area near Weisawdong in Sohra during the couple’s honeymoon trip.
Raja’s disappearance had prompted a nationwide search before his body was recovered. Sonam later surrendered to authorities in Uttar Pradesh, and Meghalaya police apprehended the other accused.
Last week, investigators submitted a 790-page charge sheet naming Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, and the three alleged hitmen — Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi.
