Meghalaya: Kalaichar Border Haat To Reopen From November 30

Following the COVID-19 hiatus of over two years, India and Bangladesh have resolved to reopen the Kalaichar Border Haat in South Garo Hills of Meghalaya from November 30.

The decision was undertaken during an Indo-Bangla Joint Border Haat Management Committee meeting, convened by the Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Gideon Kharmawphlang, and the District Magistrate of Kurigram, Bangladesh, Md. Rezaul Karim on Tuesday at the premises of Kalaichar Border Haat.

Senior officials of South West Garo Hills District Administration, including Steve Rynjah, Superintendent of Police (SP), Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs), BADO, and various officials of Bangladesh administration, including Customs Officer and also Haat Committee members, attended the meeting.

Both parties consented to trade 62 commodities, enhance the number of vendors to 50, beautify border haat premises, and repair the fencings.
