Meghalaya Police has introduced seven traffic helpline numbers across various branches in Shillong to streamline traffic management and enhance emergency response, officials said.
Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem said the initiative aims to ensure prompt reporting and resolution of traffic issues, including congestion, accidents, vehicle breakdowns, and unsafe road conditions.
He added that Shillong’s hilly terrain and narrow roads often lead to traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours and inclement weather. The helplines are expected to support a more responsive and effective traffic control system in the city.
