East Jaintia Hills Police conducted a raid on an unauthorized coal mine at Wailong under Sutnga village on Friday, resulting in the arrest of nine workers.

Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar stated that the operation was based on intelligence inputs regarding ongoing illegal coal extraction in the area. The police team apprehended the workers at the site, and an FIR has been registered at Khliehriat Police Station.

Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to trace the supply chain and identify connections linked to the illegal mining operation. The police confirmed that the raid forms part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal coal mining in East Jaintia Hills, reaffirming a strict zero-tolerance policy against such activities.
