Meghalaya Rights Panel Seeks Report After Woman, Unborn Child Dies In hospital ‘Due To Negligence’

Shillong, Jun 7: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission has sought a report after a pregnant woman and her unborn child died, allegedly due to medical negligence, at a government hospital in West Jaintia Hills district.

The woman, identified as 37-year-old Pynche Bareh from Jalaphet village in East Jaintia Hills, passed away on June 4 at the first referral hospital in West Jaintia Hills. According to reports, she was allegedly left unattended by hospital staff.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, the commission on Friday directed concerned authorities to submit a detailed report on the circumstances leading to the deaths.
