Trinamool Congress (TMC) vice-president and former minister Zenith Sangma has resigned from the party and its primary membership with immediate effect, stepping down after what he described as “much thought and reflection”. In a letter to party leaders, Sangma called the decision difficult but necessary, expressing gratitude for the trust, support, and experiences gained during his tenure with the AITC.
Zenith, the younger brother of Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma, thanked both the national and state units of the TMC for the opportunities provided and wished the party continued success in its mission. “Every phase in life has its time and purpose. Today, I feel it is the right moment for me to move on and begin a new chapter,” he stated.
A prominent leader from Garo Hills, Zenith Sangma joined TMC in 2021 alongside Mukul Sangma, after splintering from Congress with several MLAs. His resignation comes amid organizational struggles for Meghalaya TMC ahead of next year’s autonomous district council elections. Political circles are rife with speculation about Sangma returning to Congress, the party where he began his career and earlier served as a minister, though no official confirmation has been released from either side. The TMC has not immediately commented on the development.
