Shillong, Jan 12: Meghalaya secured one Gold and two Silver awards at the SKOCH Awards, recognizing the state’s achievements in innovation and inclusive development, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced on Sunday.
The Gold award was presented to the Mushroom Development Centre in Upper Shillong for its outstanding role as a Shiitake Production and Training Centre. The initiative has enhanced skill development, value addition, and income generation for local farmers.
The two Silver awards highlighted Meghalaya’s community-driven projects. The Mawlai Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Block received recognition for its grassroots development initiatives, while the Directorate of Tourism’s Nongwar Tourism Project was commended for promoting sustainable, community-based tourism that preserves local culture and natural heritage.
In a social media post, Chief Minister Sangma congratulated the departments, field staff, and community members involved, stating that the awards reflect the state’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and people-centric development models.
