A solemn memorial service was held today at Ningthoukhong Bazar Community Hall in Bishnupur district in remembrance of Gurumayum Bonny, Meisnam Malemnganba, and Pukhrambam Avinash, who have been missing since June 6, 2023.

The three youths reportedly vanished while travelling toward Churachandpur during the height of ethnic violence that erupted in Manipur following the May 3 unrest. It is suspected that they may have been abducted by Kuki militant groups amid attacks on Meitei-inhabited areas in Churachandpur and surrounding hill districts.

The families of the missing youths, who have endured a year of uncertainty, fear the worst and believe the trio may have been killed, though no official confirmation has been made. Despite multiple appeals to authorities, there has been no credible information regarding their fate.

A similar memorial was held on August 2 last year, with families voicing their anguish over the lack of answers and justice.

Speaking at today’s gathering, R.K. Ongbi Tombisana Devi, President of the Ningthoukhong Apunba Women Wing, criticized the government’s silence, saying it has deepened the families’ suffering. She urged authorities to take urgent action to uncover the truth and deliver justice to the grieving families.
