Security forces seized methamphetamine tablets and heroin worth Rs 4.79 crore in Aizawl district on Saturday and arrested four people, including two Myanmar nationals, officials said.
According to a statement issued by the Border Security Force (BSF), a joint team comprising BSF personnel and officials from the Excise and Narcotics Department conducted a raid at a house in the Chandmari West locality of Aizawl. The team recovered 5.89 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 41 grams of heroin during the operation.
Methamphetamine, commonly known as meth, is a highly addictive stimulant banned in India. The BSF stated that the operation was carried out following the interception of a vehicle on NH-6 between Seling and Tuirial on Friday. Although no contraband was found during the initial search, interrogation of the two occupants led to inputs about an expected narcotics consignment in Aizawl.
Acting on the information, the joint team raided the house early Saturday, where two additional suspects were present. On being questioned, they voluntarily handed over two bags containing the drugs.
The four accused and the seized contraband have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department for further investigation, the BSF said.
