Agartala, July 26, 2025: Tripura on Friday took a significant step toward strengthening its livestock sector with the official launch of the Livestock Insurance Scheme under the National Livestock Mission (NLM). The scheme was inaugurated by Sudhangshu Das, Minister of ARDD, Fisheries & SC Welfare, Government of Tripura at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala.
Sharing his views in social media platform on Saturday, Minister Sudhangshu Das expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Central Government for supporting the initiative. “I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan Singh ji and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying for your unwavering support and commitment towards the people of Tripura, especially in the livestock sector,” said Das.
He added, “Under your impeccable guidance, I am confident that we will be able to ensure sustainable development in the livestock sector and improve the livelihoods of our rural farmers.”
The event was attended by Deepa D. Nair (IFS), Secretary, Fisheries & Animal Resource Development, Biswajit Shil, Sabhadipati, Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad, Dr. Neeraj Kumar Chanchal (IFS), Director and Dr. Bimal Krishna Das.
As part of the ceremony, six livestock farmers were felicitated with policy certificates, symbolizing the start of insurance coverage under the scheme.
With a central allocation of ₹913.66 lakhs, the scheme will be implemented across the state by the Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD). The initiative aims to: Provide financial protection to livestock farmers; Enhance economic resilience; and Promote sustainable animal husbandry practices.
Officials highlighted that the move is a major boost for rural development, offering both risk coverage and encouraging scientific livestock practices in Tripura.
