Agartala, February 17, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha met Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Sunday to discuss a range of developmental issues, including advancements in weather forecasting, administrative concerns, and the growth of the bamboo industry in the state.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Dr. Saha highlighted the need for a more robust weather forecasting system, particularly in light of the unusually heavy rainfall that impacted Tripura last year. He emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and sought technical assistance from the Union government.

“In recent years, we have witnessed unpredictable weather patterns, and last year’s heavy rainfall caused significant disruptions. We need cutting-edge technology to ensure better forecasting and preparedness,” Dr. Saha stated.

In response, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh assured that the Ministry of Earth Sciences would establish a state-of-the-art weather radar system in Tripura within the next year. “The new system will provide timely and accurate weather forecasts, particularly for rainfall and cyclones. This will significantly enhance our ability to manage adverse weather conditions and minimize damage,” Dr. Singh said.

Another key issue discussed was the Agartala-Akhaura railway project, a critical initiative aimed at strengthening connectivity between Northeast India and Bangladesh. Dr. Saha reiterated the importance of this project in boosting trade, tourism, and overall regional cooperation.

“This railway link will not only enhance connectivity but also open new economic opportunities for Tripura and the entire Northeast region,” the Chief Minister noted.

The discussion also focused on Tripura’s bamboo industry, a sector with immense potential for economic growth. Dr. Singh informed the Chief Minister that specialized research institutes in Assam (Jorhat) and Manipur would collaborate with the Tripura government to enhance bamboo-based industries through biotechnology and innovation.

“Bamboo is an integral part of Tripura’s economy. By leveraging modern research and technology, we can significantly improve production, processing, and market reach,” Dr. Singh remarked.

The meeting was seen as a significant step toward Tripura’s development, focusing on technological advancements, improved administrative coordination, and stronger regional connectivity. Both leaders expressed confidence that these initiatives would contribute to the state’s overall progress and prosperity.
