Minor Rape Case in Tripura: Health Worker Arrested at Jolaibari

Agartala, January 03, 2025: Tripura Police has taken into custody a 36-year-old man, Bikash Nama of West Jolaibari under Baikhora police station in South district, following allegations of sexually assaulting a minor girl. The arrest came shortly after the victim filed a complaint around 10 pm on Friday night.

Acting swiftly, police detained Nama within hours of the complaint. Officials confirmed that he is employed at the Jolaibari Social Health Centre. Sources revealed that Nama is married and has one child. The victim, meanwhile, was discovered to be two months pregnant, intensifying the seriousness of the case.

OC Bishnu Das stated that the matter has been registered as Case No. 1 under sections 65-1/351-1 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He added that the accused is currently being interrogated.

Police further announced that Nama will be produced before the Bilonia District and Sessions Court on Saturday as investigations proceed.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage and concern in the community. Authorities have assured that stringent legal measures will be taken to secure justice for the minor victim.
