AIZAWL, Feb 4: The second edition of the Aizawl International Half Marathon (AIHM) will be held on February 14, Mizoram Sports Minister Lainghinglova Hmar announced on Tuesday.
The event, set to start and finish at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, will be larger in scale than last year and aims to boost the state’s sports tourism sector. The inaugural edition, held in April 2025, saw participation from 1,500 athletes across India.
“With the recent extension of the railway network to Sairang near Aizawl, we expect record-breaking turnout from athletes and spectators nationwide,” Hmar said. He added that the marathon promotes public health while highlighting Mizoram’s cultural heritage.
Professional athletes from several countries are expected to compete, with the total prize pool exceeding Rs 15 lakh. Hmar described the AIHM as “more than a race—it’s Mizoram’s invitation to the world, a permanent highlight on our tourism calendar showcasing our natural beauty and hospitality.”
