Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma attended a virtual meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Handloom and Handicraft held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. The task force was constituted by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and includes representatives from eight states.

Joining the meeting from Aizawl, Lalduhoma was accompanied by senior officials including Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena and Commerce and Industries Secretary Dr. Lalzirmawia Chhangte.

In his address, the Mizoram Chief Minister noted that 60 percent of the national workforce engaged in handloom and handicraft belongs to the Northeastern states. He highlighted the sector’s potential as a driver of economic growth and proposed a clear roadmap that includes setting up Common Facility Centres, providing structured training to artisans, fostering interstate collaboration, standardizing product quality and branding, and promoting innovation in skills and design.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia (DoNER) and Giriraj Singh (Textiles), along with Chief Ministers and Ministers from various handloom-rich states. The task force plans to submit its report within three months, adopting a cluster-based approach tailored to the strengths of each state.
