Aizawl, July 22: Civil society organisations and transporters’ associations in Mizoram have urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to immediately repair the dilapidated stretch of National Highway-6/306 to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the state.
The Joint Civil Society of Mizoram (JCSM), a coalition of civil groups and commercial vehicle operators’ associations, submitted a representation highlighting the worsening condition of the Sairang-Kawnpui section. They stated that potholes and mud-covered patches have made the highway nearly impassable, posing serious challenges to the transportation of goods.
NH-306, with a portion designated as NH-6, is a crucial route connecting Mizoram with the rest of the country via Silchar in Assam. The organisations stressed that urgent intervention is needed to prevent disruption in the movement of supplies.
