Aizawl, Nov 11: Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated the Pesticide Residue Analysis Laboratory at the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Selesih, on Monday during the institution’s 27th Foundation Day celebration.
Horticulture Minister C. Lalsawivunga and Agriculture Minister PC Vanlalruata attended the event as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the college’s role not only for Mizoram but also for students from other Northeastern states. He noted the importance of livestock farming to the livelihoods of many households in the state and emphasized the need for skilled professionals in agriculture and livestock management.
He encouraged faculty and staff to continue their dedicated service and urged students to make the most of the opportunities available to them. Speaking about the new laboratory, he said it would facilitate research under the All India Network Project on Pesticide Residues, benefit farmers, and ensure agricultural products in Mizoram remain clean and safe for consumption. The facility will also support research scholars and students, contributing to healthier and more sustainable agricultural practices in the state.
The college, established in 1997, currently has 440 students enrolled and has produced 891 BVSc & AH graduates, 378 postgraduates, and 15 PhD scholars to date.
The All India Network Project on Pesticide Residues, launched in 1985, aims to ensure safe agricultural produce across the country. Selesih Veterinary College became one of its northeastern centres in 2010. In 2019, the college secured Rs. 11.80 crore under the RKVY scheme for facility expansion and upgrades, with continued support from the State Government until completion.
