Aizawl, Dec 16: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Mara Girls’ Hostel at Aizawl, eight (8) new schools, and the upgradation of six (6) existing schools at Mara Boys’ Hostel, Zotlang Veng, Aizawl. These educational infrastructure projects will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK).
In his address, the Chief Minister described the day as a historic moment for the Mara community and a significant milestone in Mizoram’s educational advancement. Upon completion, the facilities are expected to benefit around 3,200 Mara students. He also mentioned that the State Government has already taken up the construction of a Mara Girls’ Hostel in Delhi since assuming office.
The Chief Minister stated that these initiatives reflect the Government’s commitment towards the development of the MADC area and the empowerment of women.
Emphasising transparency and quality in public works, the Chief Minister said that the Government is determined to eliminate substandard and incomplete works. A public-inclusive Project Monitoring Committee has been constituted, which has so far reviewed 87 projects, with more under review. The projects whose foundation stones were laid today will also be closely monitored to ensure quality execution and timely completion. He urged all executing agencies to work with dedication and responsibility. The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Minority Affairs for providing financial support.
M. Laikaw, Chief Executive Member, MADC, who addressed the programme online from Siaha, termed the occasion as historic for the Mara people. He recalled that on 6 July this year, George Kurian, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, had inaugurated two projects, and with today’s three additional projects, the total value of projects now exceeds ₹30 crore. He also acknowledged the ongoing construction of the Mara Girls’ Hostel in Delhi under the Chief Minister’s leadership and expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Mizoram.
Dr. K. Beichhua, MLA, Siaha Constituency, also conveyed his sincere thanks to the Chief Minister.
A. Viahra, Superintending Engineer, MADC, presented the technical report. The Mara Girls’ Hostel will be an RCC structure with six storeys, accommodating 120 students, with dormitory facilities and a conference hall, to be constructed at a cost of ₹8.07 crore within the stipulated timeframe. The eight new school buildings will be constructed at a cost of ₹5.76 crore, each RCC structure having 12 rooms, and are also targeted for timely completion. The upgradation of six existing schools, costing ₹8.59 crore, will include the provision of smart classrooms.
