Aizawl, Nov 24: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at Railway Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday to review major railway projects and proposed service improvements for the state. The meeting focused on project alignment, passenger convenience, train schedules, and infrastructure development.
The Chief Minister emphasised the need to finalise the alignment of the Sairang–Thenzawl railway in line with the ongoing Thenzawl Peace City Master Plan. The Railway Minister assured that the alignment review would be completed before February 2026.
To improve connectivity with Assam, the Chief Minister requested adjustments so that trains from Sairang reach Guwahati by around 4:30 am. The Railway Minister agreed to modify the timings. He also supported the proposal to reduce the current 42-hour travel time of the Sairang–Delhi Rajdhani Express through a shorter route, which is expected to save about four hours. The request to increase the Rajdhani’s frequency from once to twice weekly was also taken up for active follow-up.
For the Kolkata–Sairang service, the Chief Minister sought rescheduling to ensure arrival at Sairang around 3:00 pm instead of the present 7:45 pm. The Railway Minister accepted the proposal.
The Chief Minister further urged the formal flagging off of the extended Silchar–Bairabi passenger service up to Sairang. The Railway Minister agreed and expressed willingness to flag off the extended service at a suitable time.
To streamline visitor entry formalities, the Chief Minister proposed integrating the Mizoram ILP Portal with IRCTC. The Railway Minister assured necessary action on the proposal.
He also agreed to the establishment of a warehouse and cold storage facility near Sairang Railway Station to support agricultural and logistical needs, asking the state government to identify a suitable location.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva, Adviser to the Chief Minister (Handholding Policy), and R. Lalrodingi, OSD to the Chief Minister.
