The Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister – Tawnluia, inaugurated the ‘PUM 2022’, an innovation competition and exhibition at the Government Industrial Training Institute Complex in Aizawl on Wednesday.
Organized by the Labour Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (LESDE) Department, the three-day innovation fair aims to bolster innovative ideas and craftsmanship under the theme “Youth Skills for a better tomorrow”.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy CM noted that the state government considers skill development as the key to development.
Therefore, the state government is striving to develop the innovative ideas, skills, and craftsmanship of youth.
Highlighting the various schemes and measures initiated by the government, the Deputy CM reiterated that skill development is one of the key focus under the state’s flagship programme-SEDP.
“The modern world is focusing on skill development. Skill development and vocational education is an important factor in breaching the gap between education and the high level of unemployment which exists today,” he stated.
The LESDE Minister – Lalchhandama Ralte, who graced the function as ‘Guest of Honour’ congratulated the trainees of ITI, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs from across the state for participating in the three-day event.
He underlined the measures initiated by the state government to establish government-run Industrial Training Institutes.
The government-owned ITI in Aizawl, Lunglei, and Siaha Districts; four more are slated to be established in four districts viz. Champhai, Serchhip, Kolasib, and Champhai.
The 3-day Innovation Fair will showcase various products and items made by the trainees and alumni. It includes competition under two categories – Engineering and Non-Engineering, to be adjudicated by five judges in each category.
There are 25 participants in the Engineering group and 39 in the Non-Engineering Group. The top three winners in both categories will be announced on the closing day, scheduled to be held on November 11. It will be open to the public tomorrow.
