Aizawl, Dec 30: Mizoram Police have arrested nine people, including four serving constables and five women, for their alleged involvement in a fake drug racket in Aizawl, officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the arrests followed a tip-off received by the Special Narcotics Police Station, Aizawl, which led to a planned operation. Superintendent of Police Zosangliana said the accused women allegedly contacted potential buyers, posed as drug suppliers, negotiated deals, and fixed meeting points for transactions.

At the designated locations, the constables allegedly arrived posing as CID personnel and staged arrests of the buyers. Police said the victims were released only after paying money, which was then shared among the accused. Preliminary investigation suggests the group carried out the scam on more than six occasions.

The case came to light on December 15 after police received information about three constables waiting for a methamphetamine consignment at New Capital Complex in Aizawl. During the operation, one of the constables reportedly received a call asking them to move to Khatla, where police intercepted a woman described as the key accused and recovered fake methamphetamine tablets.

Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of another constable and four more women, taking the total number of accused to nine. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the racket and identify any additional links.
