Mizoram: Gauhati High Court Judges Inaugurate ₹17.93 Crore Parking Complex And Footpath In Aizawl

Aizawl, Apr 26: A High Court Parking Building and an Elevated Pedestrian Footpath to the District Court at MINECO, Aizawl, constructed at a cost of ₹17.93 crore, were inaugurated on Friday by three Judges of the Gauhati High Court—Justice Michael Zothankhuma, Justice Nelson Sailo, and Justice Marli Vankung.

Funded under the Socio-Economic Development Programme (SEDP), the project was sanctioned at ₹1960 lakh and executed for ₹1793.37 lakh by contractor V. Malsawmdawngliana of Chandmari, Aizawl. Construction began on September 30, 2020.

The judges jointly cut the ribbon and unveiled plaques on the 1st and 6th floors of the new facility. A brief inaugural programme was held on the top floor of the parking building, where Justice Michael Zothankhuma highlighted the infrastructure development over the past 17 years in Aizawl, calling it a reflection of the government’s commitment.

Justice Nelson Sailo delivered the welcome address, and Er. H. Lalnuntluanga, Senior Executive Engineer, PWD Project Division-I, presented the technical report. The seven-storey building, covering a total area of 5805.04 square meters, can accommodate up to 149 vehicles.

The ground floor includes quarters and an office for the chowkidar. The 1st floor houses parking for 12 cars, along with a canteen and kitchen. The 2nd floor provides parking for 17 cars, two offices, a driver’s room, and a common toilet. The 3rd to 6th floors are used solely for car parking, each with a common toilet. The building features an RCC ramp and staircase for easy access to all floors.

A covered RCC pedestrian footpath with a sloping roof connects the parking building to the District Court, offering protection from weather conditions. An RCC staircase links the facility to the High Court complex.

The building is equipped with: RCC foundation and frame structure, Cement concrete flooring in parking areas and vitrified tile flooring in rooms and staircases , Half-brick walling with steel grills in parking areas, RCC flat roof with seal coat and sloping steel-truss roof for the footpath, and 1.6-meter-high brick boundary wall topped with 0.55-meter barbed wire fencing over a stretch of 93 meters.

Registrar of the Gauhati High Court, Aizawl Bench, Dr. H.T.C. Lalrinchhana, delivered the vote of thanks, marking the conclusion of the programme.
