The Mizoram government has clarified that Aizawl continues to be the state capital, dismissing recent reports suggesting a shift to Thenzawl in Serchhip district.

In an official statement issued on Monday, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM)-led government stated that the confusion was caused by a clerical error in a central government communication sent to the state administration.

The government confirmed that no proposal has been made to change the capital.

Thenzawl, located about 93 kilometres from Aizawl, is part of the Serchhip constituency, which has been represented by Chief Minister Lalduhoma in both the 2018 and 2023 assembly elections.
