Aizawl, March 19: The Mizoram Department of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation has issued an urgent advisory, directing all deputy commissioners to remain on high alert following recent hailstorms and heavy rains that battered several parts of the state.The directive calls for immediate activation of District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOCs) to ensure swift coordination of response efforts.
The weather office forecasts light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across the Northeast from March 13-19, with intermittent showers, thunderstorms, and hailstorms expected at isolated to scattered locations in Mizoram over the coming days.
Deputy commissioners have been urged to maintain “heightened preparedness,” while residents and commuters are advised to brace for localised waterlogging, slippery roads, and potential traffic disruptions.
Officials are also mandated to provide prompt financial assistance to families impacted by the recent hailstorms.
