Aizawl, Nov 29: Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Friday described the newly inaugurated Bairabi-Sairang railway line as a “game-changer” for the state’s development. The 51.38-km railway stretch, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, marks Mizoram’s first connection to the national railway network.

Speaking to a 13-member Press Information Bureau (PIB) media team from Cochin at Raj Bhavan, Singh said the railway line is expected to enhance tourism, ease transportation, and reduce goods prices and logistics costs through improved connectivity.

The governor also highlighted plans to integrate the line with the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) and expressed confidence that the remaining 200-plus km of railway expansion would be completed as scheduled.

Singh noted Mizoram’s reliance on agriculture and its untapped industrial potential, citing sectors such as organic products, high-quality ginger, turmeric, chilli, aromatic and medicinal plants, rubber, and bamboo-based industries. He added that development initiatives by the central and state governments are fostering optimism for accelerated growth in the state.

The PIB media team, led by director Dhanya Sanal K, also visited Assam to observe various development projects. Dhanya said the press tour aims to provide journalists firsthand experience of the Centre’s development focus in the Northeast.
