Aizawl, July 22: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), was officially inducted as the Chief Patron of the Mizoram State Bharat Scouts & Guides during a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. The induction was carried out by H. Lalhmingthanga, State Chief Commissioner of the Bharat Scouts & Guides, Mizoram State.
Speaking at the event, the Governor emphasized the importance of the Scouts & Guides movement, describing it as one of the largest voluntary youth movements in the world. He noted that the movement, introduced in India in 1909, plays a vital role in character building and community service. With over 67 million members in 216 countries, the movement continues to inspire youth through its core values and motto, “Once a Scout or Guide, always a Scout or Guide.”
The Governor highlighted the contributions of the Lushai Scout Troop, established in 1932, and its impact on Mizoram’s development. He stressed that the movement goes beyond symbols like uniforms and badges, focusing on developing responsible and socially aware individuals. In an era of digital distractions, he said the movement helps young people stay grounded and committed to community service.
As Chief Patron, the Governor pledged his support to strengthen the movement across the state. He urged all stakeholders to ensure the active participation of youth from every village, school, and district in Mizoram, aiming to prepare them as capable leaders of tomorrow.
The ceremony also featured an address by Lalngilneia Colney, State Secretary of the Bharat Scouts & Guides, Mizoram, and concluded with a vote of thanks from Thankhuma, State Commissioner (AR).
