Mizoram Governor Meets MJA Leaders To Discuss Journalism And Army Recruitment

Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), met with leaders of the Mizoram Journalists’ Association (MJA) at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday to underscore the vital role of journalists in raising public awareness about critical issues essential to the state’s development.

Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh emphasised the critical role of journalists in educating the public and urged them to continue their efforts in disseminating essential information for the progress of the state. He highlighted the government’s initiatives to facilitate the recruitment of young Mizo individuals into the Army through the Recruitment Office, encouraging journalists to guide and inform aspiring candidates about the importance of maintaining accurate documentation and paperwork. He noted that the central government is investing significant funds to enhance education in Mizoram, mentioning the establishment of institutions such as Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. He urged journalists to raise awareness about these institutions to ensure their effective utilisation by the public.

During the interaction, MJA President C. Lalrambuatsaiha provided an overview of the association’s history and ongoing initiatives. He informed the Governor that the MJA was established on 23rd March, 1972, and currently has 200 members.

The meeting also covered the importance of enabling more Mizo youth to join the Army and the effective utilisation of the Army Recruitment Office in Aizawl. MJA Office Bearers shared details of their previous participation in Defence Study Tours, which focus on national security and related initiatives. They expressed gratitude for these opportunities and requested the Governor’s support in facilitating future Defence Study Tours and Defence Correspondent Courses to ensure continued success. In response, the Governor noted that the Ministry of Defence organises such tours and courses annually, assuring that he would make every effort to support their requests as much as possible.
