Aizawl, April 7: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), successfully completed his self-enumeration under Phase I of the Census of India 2027 (Houselisting and Housing Census) at Lok Bhavan in Aizawl this morning.
General (Dr) Vijay Kumar described India’s first digital census as a landmark initiative and urged all census officials in Mizoram to make every effort to ensure its smooth and successful implementation across the state. He appealed to the public to take the exercise seriously by registering themselves in the census and to extend full cooperation to the enumerators. He instructed officials to reach even the remotest corners of the state, ensure the process remains as hassle-free as possible for citizens, and conduct the entire exercise in a clear, transparent, and doubt-free manner.
Highlighting the strong Mizo tradition of community support and mutual assistance, the Governor emphasised the importance of close collaboration between census officials and Village Councils or Local Councils to make the fieldwork smoother. He extended his best wishes for the census to be carried out as effectively as possible in Mizoram.
On the occasion, senior officials from the Directorate of Census Operations briefed the Governor on the census preparedness, strategies, and progress in the state. Those present included Vinod P. Kavle, Director of Census Operations; Joseph H. Lalramsanga, Municipal Commissioner cum Principal Census Officer; Irene Zohlimpuii Chongthu, Additional Secretary, GAD & Additional State Nodal Officer; Shivam Gupta, Assistant Director of Census Operations; and Sandip Panja, Assistant Director of Census Operations.
The Census of India 2027 is the country’s first digital census and will be conducted in two phases. The first phase Houselisting and Housing Census began on 1 April, 2026. The second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027. The self-enumeration window is open from 1 April to 15 April, 2026. This will be followed by the House Listing and Housing Census across Mizoram from 16 April to 15 May, 2026.
