Aizawl, May 26: Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii attended the Graduation Day ceremony for MBBS students at Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMC&H) on Tuesday, where she also inaugurated Mizoram’s first Interventional CT Scan. Addressing the graduates as Chief Guest, Lalrinpuii congratulated them for completing their studies despite beginning their coursework during the Covid-19 pandemic. She expressed confidence that the new doctors would help ease the state’s shortage of medical professionals and reminded them of the two-year service bond signed with the Government of Mizoram. She urged them to honor this commitment and contribute to the state’s healthcare system.

The minister encouraged graduates to pursue higher studies in critical fields such as Anesthesiology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology, which are in high demand in Mizoram. She highlighted ongoing efforts under the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme (MUHCS) to improve accessibility and noted the significance of inaugurating the state’s first Interventional CT Scan.

Guest of Honour TBC Lalvenchhunga commended the vision of previous governments in establishing a medical college and advised the new doctors to serve patients with empathy and dedication.

Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, Project Director of the Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP), explained that the newly installed u-CT 780 Model, 128-Slice CT Scanner System, costing Rs. 8.18 crores and funded by the World Bank, uses AI technology to deliver clearer imaging with reduced radiation exposure. The system is particularly beneficial for cardiac patients, children, and cancer treatment, and has been installed in the Department of Radiodiagnosis. Similar CT Scan machines have already been placed in Champhai and Siaha districts under MHSSP.

ZMC&H, established in 2018, began postgraduate studies last year with limited seats across five departments. The current graduating batch, which began in February 2021, saw 96 out of 98 students successfully pass their final exams, achieving a pass percentage of 97.95.
