Aizawl, Dec 17: Mizoram today launched the ‘Fit India Cycling Tuesday Campaign’ as part of the nationwide Fit India Movement, which aims to promote physical fitness and environmental sustainability. The initiative, inaugurated by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi, was simultaneously rolled out across all states and union territories.
In Mizoram, the campaign was launched in Aizawl and Thenzawl through a joint effort by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Sports & Youth Services (SYS) Department of the Government of Mizoram, and the Mizoram Cycling Association. The event in Aizawl took place at Vanapa Hall, where Pi Elizabeth Lalnunmawii Colney, Centre Incharge of STC Aizawl, chaired the proceedings. She outlined the campaign’s goals of fostering a “Fitter India,” reducing pollution, and promoting environmental sustainability.
A key highlight of the launch event was the pledge-taking ceremony, in which approximately 70 cyclists and officials committed to engaging in at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily. The pledge was led by Pu. Lianminthang, Regional Director of SAI.
Following the ceremony, Pu. Lalramsanga Sailo IRS, Secretary of the SYS Department, Government of Mizoram, flagged off the campaign. Around 30 cyclists from the Mizoram Cycling Association participated in a 5-kilometer ride from Vanapa Hall to Zarkawt, Chanmari, and back.
The event was attended by Dr. Franklin Lalrinngheta, President of the Mizoram Cycling Association, along with other officials from the association, SAI coaches, and SYS department representatives.
