Lunglei town has been honoured with the ‘Promising Swachh Shehar of Mizoram Award’ under the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024–2025, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The award ceremony took place on Thursday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The award was received on behalf of Lunglei by Mizoram UD&PA Minister K. Sapdanga, Lunglei Municipal Council Vice Chairman K. Lalrinawma, Executive Councillor Lalhruaitluangi Sailo, UD&PA Secretary Lalmalsawma Pachuau, and Director Jacob Lalawmpuia from Union Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal.
The Swachh Survekshan Awards, part of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U), assess towns and cities across India on cleanliness parameters. The 2024–2025 edition marked the ninth cycle, with 78 awards presented nationwide.
Since first participating in 2016, Lunglei has secured six Swachh Survekshan awards, including recognition for innovation, citizen feedback, and overall cleanliness in the Northeast Zone and Mizoram.
Lunglei’s consistent performance highlights its leadership in urban cleanliness and active citizen involvement in sanitation initiatives.
