A 23-year-old man was arrested in Aizawl, Mizoram, on Sunday for stealing money by replacing the legitimate QR code at a petrol pump. The accused, H. Lalrohlua, allegedly swapped the official QR code at the Mizofed petrol pump in Treasury Square with his own, diverting payments intended for the station.
Police said the incident came to light after the pump manager filed a complaint on Saturday, noticing that the QR code had been tampered with around 3 PM. Authorities acted quickly, apprehending Lalrohlua, who later confessed to the crime.
Lalrohlua used his personal GPay QR code to collect a total of Rs 2,315 through three transactions. While he refunded Rs 890 to one of the customers, he kept the remaining Rs 1,425. The accused, who has no prior criminal record, is now facing charges of fraud and theft.
