Emphasizing the importance of effective communication, he called for stronger coordination with line departments and the media to ensure weather updates are available in the Mizo language for wider public benefit. He also highlighted the urgent need to install a weather radar in Mizoram.
Director Dwivedi thanked the Governor for his support and outlined key initiatives including VVIP and seven-day weather forecasts, an Air Quality Index for Aizawl to boost tourism, and customized forecasts for four major tourist destinations in Mizoram. Weather updates are issued every six hours and shared via social media and the official website.
Future plans include the installation of a Doppler Weather Radar at Laipuitlang, Aizawl, under Mission Mausam. A new Meteorological Office is planned for Siaha, addressing cyclonic activity originating largely from Mizoram’s southern region. The Centre will also establish a Training and Awareness Centre for students, and there are plans to upgrade the Lengpui Aerodrome Meteorological Station into a more advanced Aerodrome Meteorological Office.
