The Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Hmar People’s Convention (Reformed) (HPC-R) have officially staked their claim to form the next Sinlung Hills Council (SHC) following their victory in the recent elections. The two parties, which formed a coalition, submitted a petition on Friday to Aizawl’s Deputy Commissioner, Lalhriatpuia, requesting formal approval to establish the new council.
In Tuesday’s election for the 12-member SHC, the MNF-HPC(R) combine secured seven seats, defeating the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and Hmar People’s Convention (HPC) coalition, which won only four seats. This win positions the MNF-HPC(R) to assume control of the council, which oversees governance in the Sinlung Hills region of Mizoram.
