Aizawl, April 2: Mizoram Police have dismantled multiple drug smuggling networks in operations conducted from March 25 to 31, seizing heroin and methamphetamine worth Rs 25.01 crore and arresting eight individuals, including two Myanmar nationals.
Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) H. Ramthlengliana said the crackdown yielded significant results. On the morning of March 25, a CID (Special Branch) team stopped a truck at Tuirial Bridge near Aizawl, traveling from Seiling in Saitual district. A search of the vehicle recovered 19.836 kg of methamphetamine (Yaba) tablets valued at Rs 15.86 crore, along with a US-made handgun, two magazines, and 40 live rounds. The 23-year-old driver from Champhai district, located along the Indo-Myanmar border, was arrested.
Between March 27 and 29, three separate raids near Keifang in Saitual district recovered 4.46 kg of heroin worth Rs 8.93 crore from three vehicles. Police arrested four suspects from Manipur and one from Assam in connection with the seizures.
On March 31, two Myanmar nationals were apprehended in Aizawl’s Zembawk area with 104 grams of heroin valued at Rs 20.4 lakh.
The eight accused are facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Arms Act, and Immigration and Foreigners Act, according to Ramthlengliana.
