Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has reiterated his government’s commitment to remove illegal immigrants and non-tribal residents living in the state without valid Inner Line Permits (ILP).

Speaking at the Young Mizo Association (YMA) general conference at Sakawrdai near the Manipur border, Lalduhoma said the initiative has already begun in certain parts of Aizawl. He added that the matter was discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, following approval from the state governor.

The chief minister highlighted that the ILP system, governed under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) of 1873, has historically protected the rights of Mizoram’s tribal population by restricting land ownership and barring illegal entry by non-tribals.

Lalduhoma noted that the government has launched an online ILP system, which is being reinforced to prevent unauthorized entry. He called for support from the YMA, local councils, and village authorities in identifying and evicting illegal settlers.

On infrastructure, Lalduhoma expressed concern over delays in widening National Highway 306/06 into four lanes due to compensation disputes and pending forest clearances. He also pointed out that the construction of a gas pipeline from Tripura and a trade facilitation centre on the India–Bangladesh border has been stalled by similar clearance issues.
