Aizawl, March 25: Mizoram’s apex student organisation, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), has issued a detailed advisory for tourists, emphasising cultural sensitivity and social etiquette as visitor numbers continue to rise in the state.
In its statement, the influential student body underscored that while Mizoram remains a welcoming destination, visitors must respect the Mizo way of life. The advisory covers digital content creation, protection of vulnerable groups, and strict adherence to legal entry requirements, including the mandatory Inner Line Permit (ILP).
The MZP expressed concern over social media activity, cautioning non-locals against producing content that could “malign the Mizo people, their religion, or their society.” Tourists have been asked not to photograph or film private residences and churches without prior permission, and to avoid exaggerated or inappropriate behaviour in public spaces.
The organisation strongly disapproved of unauthorised filming of women and children, warning that such actions could lead to legal consequences. It also discouraged random street interviews by vloggers, urging visitors to rely on credible and authoritative sources for accurate information about Mizo heritage.
“Mizos are protective of their women and children,” the statement said, adding that misconduct would not be tolerated by the community or authorities. The advisory also highlighted respect for workers in the transport sector as a cornerstone of social conduct.
While supporting tourism growth, the MZP stressed that hospitality should not be mistaken for weakness, and cultural boundaries must remain respected.
Mizoram is steadily emerging as one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the Northeast, aided by improved railway connectivity and high-value infrastructure investments, Governor VK Singh noted in the assembly last month.
