Assam Rifles Busts Heroin Smuggling And Foreign Currency Trafficking In Mizoram

Champhai Jan 23: Assam Rifles personnel seized 2.057 kilograms of Heroin No. 4, valued at around ₹15.42 crore, and intercepted Burmese currency worth over ₹3.46 crore in separate operations in Mizoram this week, officials said.

In Champhai district, acting on intelligence about drug trafficking in Diltalang, troops set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) and intercepted a suspicious two-wheeler. The driver and pillion rider escaped, but a search of the vehicle recovered the heroin and a mobile phone, which were handed over to Champhai Police for further investigation.

In a related operation in Laki, Siaha district, an MVCP at a road junction led to the interception of two vehicles around 8 pm on Tuesday. Authorities recovered Burmese Kyat 3,46,07,000 (equivalent to ₹3.46 crore) and arrested five individuals: three Myanmarese women Daw Oo Ma Thin (50), Dawe Shwe Win (63), and Daw Kyaut Khine (21) and two Indian men from Mizoram, Lalhariatpuia (37) and Tumzasanga (34). The seized currency and suspects were handed over to Tuipang Police Station for legal proceedings.

Assam Rifles emphasized its continued efforts to secure the Indo-Myanmar border and disrupt drug and currency smuggling networks in the region.
