Agartala, May 22, 2025: A baby boy was born aboard the Kanchanjunga Express on Thursday while the train was passing through the Ambassa–Kumarghat section in Tripura, creating a moment of joy and prompt response by railway authorities.

According to Government Railway Police (GRP) officials, the train was heading to Pakur in Jharkhand when the birth occurred in coach S/9. The mother, Ketki Nagesiya (23), a resident of Barpani under Kisko Police Station in Lohardaga district, Jharkhand, went into labour during the journey. She was travelling with her husband and family after working as a labourer in Agartala.

As the train reached Dharmanagar station in North Tripura district, railway personnel acted promptly. The on-duty Commercial Management Personnel (CMP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and GRP responded immediately. A railway doctor boarded the train, examined the newborn and mother, and recommended further treatment at the Civil Hospital.

An ambulance was quickly arranged, and the RPF escorted the family to the hospital. Authorities later confirmed that both mother and child were in stable condition and receiving appropriate medical care.

“The mother and newborn are safe, and all necessary assistance was provided without delay,” a railway official stated, praising the coordinated efforts of all involved.
