The High Court of Manipur has admitted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL No. 24 of 2025) filed by Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Manipur, regarding the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and the issue of water supply in the state.
The case was heard today before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M. Sundar and Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh. In his petition, Dr. Akoijam sought directions from the Court to ensure a functional and continuous tap-water supply of at least two hours daily to all rural and urban households in Manipur within a fixed timeframe.
The MP has also urged the Court to appoint a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising individuals of proven integrity to investigate alleged irregularities and corruption in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission. Additionally, the petition calls for monitoring of the investigation, as well as disciplinary and criminal action against any officials or contractors found guilty of misreporting, negligence, or diversion of public funds under the scheme.
Dr. Bimol Akoijam was represented by Advocate Hijam Chandrakumar and his associates. After hearing the matter as Supplementary Item No. 1, the Court admitted the petition and issued notices to the respondents to file their replies.
The case has been listed for the next hearing on November 18, 2025.
