Agartala, July 02, 2025: In a major push toward industrial development in Tripura, former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday announced that Sumitra Woodcraft Factory, a leading wooden furniture manufacturer based in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh, is set to establish a new industry in the state.

Speaking after a meeting with company representatives at his residence in New Delhi, Deb said the proposed unit will focus on manufacturing and exporting a variety of products made from Tripura’s abundant bamboo, rubber wood and dried ‘kochuripana’ (Bengali name) also known as Water Hyacinths.

“The Sumitra Woodcraft Factory is already a 100% export-oriented company dealing in wooden furniture and related products,” Deb stated. “Their initiative to set up a unit in Tripura will not only boost the industrial ecosystem but also provide significant employment to local youth and skilled artisans.”

He emphasized the economic and employment benefits of this move. “This will ensure proper utilization of Tripura’s natural resources and increase the demand for our bamboo and wood products in international markets,” Deb added.

Highlighting the state’s potential, Deb said, “Tripura has vast untapped resources, and with the right investment, it can become a hub for value-added products that meet global standards.”

The project is expected to promote local craftsmanship and improve livelihoods in the region, aligning with ongoing efforts to attract private investment to the northeastern state.
