The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) has written to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, urging for the implementation of a systemic and humane framework for the welfare of street dogs in Meghalaya.

In her letter, Commission Chairperson Agatha K Sangma expressed appreciation for the Chief Minister’s efforts and called for a comprehensive approach that promotes compassion, care, and co-existence.

The letter emphasized the need for designated feeding zones, awareness campaigns, sterilization, and vaccination drives to ensure the well-being of street dogs.

It also cited the Central Government’s initiatives, including the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, as guiding frameworks.

“We believe that Meghalaya can become a model state that embodies the spirit of ahimsa and co-existence,” said Agatha K Sangma, urging the Chief Minister to take concrete steps toward establishing a humane policy for street dog welfare.
