The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Tuesday successfully organised a one-day capacity building programme on the theme “Empowerment Through Education & Legal Literacy” at the DM Community College Hall, DM College of Science, Imphal.

Addressing the programme, W. She said the services rendered by CISF personnel deserve wider public appreciation and greater awareness.
Phajatombi Devi also elaborated on the role of MSCW as a women-centric statutory body committed to the empowerment and protection of women.

Emphasising the importance of the technical sessions organised during the programme, she urged students and teachers to actively participate and make the most of the interactions. She further informed that the Commission is focusing on providing free marital counselling this year. Referring to the National Commission for Women’s initiative “Tere Mere Sapne”, she said Pre-Marital Communication Centres (PMCCs) are being set up in youth-centric institutions and offices to prepare young men and women emotionally, mentally and socially for marriage.

Chairperson of MSCW, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, in her address, stressed the importance of attentive listening, quoting the saying that good listeners are good learners. She urged students to pay close attention to the sessions, noting that the knowledge gained would be useful throughout their lives. Highlighting the role of MSCW as a platform for addressing issues faced by women, she said the Commission, established in 2006, works to safeguard women’s rights and promote their overall empowerment.
Speaking on legal literacy, the Chairperson pointed out that a large section of the population remains unaware of existing laws and legal rights. She said the programme was organised with the objective of spreading awareness about laws, legal rights and various Acts related to women.
