Security forces in Manipur have arrested several individuals allegedly associated with militant outfits and criminal gangs during separate operations conducted across Imphal East and West districts on July 28 and 29.

On July 28, Md. Samir Khan alias Inao (45) was apprehended from Kairang Umang Mayai Leikai under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East. He is reportedly a member of a criminal gang known as ‘Ningolmacha’. A .32 calibre pistol (without magazine), a 9mm pistol magazine, .32 calibre ammunition, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a mobile phone were recovered from his possession.

In a separate operation the same day, security personnel arrested Thiyam Boynao Singh (47), an active member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG), from Haokip Veng near the Mahabali River bank in Imphal East. An Aadhaar card was seized during the arrest.

The crackdown continued on July 29 with a coordinated cordon-and-search operation that led to the arrest of two active cadres of the KCP (Military & Foreign Liaison) faction—KCP (MFL). Khaidem Nongpoknganba Singh of Lamlai Mayai Leikai, Imphal East, was apprehended from Nongada Awang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station. He is suspected to be involved in a firing incident at Napet Palli village on July 10, as well as in the concealment and transportation of arms for the banned group.

Based on Nongpoknganba’s disclosure, Thounaojam Ashokumar Singh of Leiphrakpam Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district was arrested from Langthabal Kunja under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West.

Items seized from the duo include a 9mm pistol with magazine, two mobile phones, a wallet containing ₹510, and an Aadhaar card.

Security forces have intensified their anti-extortion and anti-militancy operations across the state, reaffirming their commitment to eliminate threats posed by underground outfits and organised crime networks.
