Agartala, June 19, 2025: Three commercial flights from different carriers were forced to return to their departure airports on Thursday due to mid-air technical issues, triggering emergency protocols and precautionary landings. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
An IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Agartala was compelled to return to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport shortly after take-off due to a reported technical glitch. The aircraft, en route to Tripura’s capital, landed safely, and passengers were deboarded without incident. Airline officials confirmed the aircraft is undergoing maintenance checks, and arrangements are being made for an alternate flight.
In a separate incident earlier the same day, IndiGo flight 6E 2006 from Delhi to Leh turned back mid-flight after encountering a technical issue that affected operational capabilities for landing in Leh. The aircraft, carrying 180 passengers, landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
“Following standard protocol, the pilot returned to the origin airport. An alternative aircraft has already been deployed to transport passengers to Leh,” IndiGo said in a statement. Maintenance work is ongoing on the affected plane.
Meanwhile, a SpiceJet flight SG 2696 operating from Hyderabad to Tirupati also returned to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after takeoff. According to a statement from the airline, the Q400 aircraft experienced intermittent illumination of the AFT baggage door light. Although cabin pressure remained normal, the crew opted for a precautionary return.
“The aircraft landed safely and was not classified as an emergency landing. All passengers were deplaned normally,” said a GMR spokesperson. A replacement aircraft was later arranged to continue the journey to Tirupati.
Authorities are investigating all incidents, while airlines have reiterated their commitment to safety and minimal disruption.
